Abstract
Dorothy Howard, Wikipedian-in-Residence at the Metropolitan New York Library Council, will present a case-study of her work as Wikipedian-in-Residence since August, 2013. The Residency is unique in that is is a collaboration with a library-services organization that provides technology and digitization services to around 280 libraries and archives in New York. The multi-institutional residency also has precedent in the National Library of Scotland WiR Residency, and the York Museums Trust Residency. This talk will discuss the special considerations for Wikipedians-in-Residence that serve multiple institutions, present some of the most exciting GLAM collaborations that have come out of this project.
Detailed proposal

The focus of the Wikipedian-in-Residence at the Metropolitan New York Library Council has been to educate some 280 member libraries and archives and institutuions about how they can use Wikipedia to fulfill their institutional missions and reach new audiences. The project includes but is not limited to: Wikipedia consultations for members, private staff trainings and educational Wikipedia events, Wikipedia Edit-a-thon and events organizing, panel and workshop curation, the development of online resources for educating librarians and archivists about Wikipedia, bridging institutions working with Wikipedia together, and the documentation of the GLAM-Wiki movement in New York.

This presentation will showcase some of the most successful and innovative GLAM collaborations in New York over the past 2 years, including: Wikipedia:GLAM/Józef Piłsudski Institute of America, Wikipedia:Wikipedia:GLAM/Frick, Wikipedia:GLAM/Guggenheim Museum, and Wikipedia:GLAM/QueensLibrary, as well as collaborative projects coordinated with Wikimedia NYC including work with activist groups to add content related to social justice and activism to Wikipedia's history, collaborating on social change and justice Edit-a-thons, including the BlackLifeMatters Wikipedia Edit-a-thon with the New York Public Library
