Dedalus heeft advies gezoch op 13 mei 2005 op #wikimedia over hoe verdere stappen te zetten richting oprichting van een local chapter. Een log van die chat - m.b.t dit onderwerp - hieronder.
(Dedalus) Hi
(dannyisme) hi dedalus
(Angela) hi
(Dedalus) the process to establish a local chapter in the Netherlands is a hard one. Looking for advice on how to proceed
(notafish_) Dedalus: what kind of advice?
(Dedalus) any will do
(Dedalus) A wiki, http://nl.wikimedia.org was opened on March 23, 2005 a project to establish a local chapter
(Dedalus) Until today 51 persons have registered as users
(Dedalus) A dozen of them do participate in discussion and debate
(Dedalus) One of the unanswered questions seems to be: who are the members of the chapter
(Dedalus) notafish_: do you have any experience in establishing an organisation?
(notafish_) Dedalus: kind of, yes
(waerth) hahahaha
(notafish_) waerth: what's so funny ;)
(waerth) yeah you are kinda experienced
(notafish_) well, definitely under Dutch law ;)
(notafish_) but I am part of the French chapter
(notafish_) which may help :D
(Dedalus) notafish_: That is great! Ryo_ participated a week ago in a #nl.wikimedia chat about this topic
(notafish_) cool :)
(notafish_) Dedalus: if I remember a few threads about the NEtherlands
(notafish_) there was a possibility of not establishing a chapter
(notafish_) but of being a "branc" of the WMFoundation ?
(notafish_) *branch
(Dedalus) like in France, a kind of daughter organisation?
(Dedalus) The Dutch "stichting" is like an american trust
(notafish_) yes, except France has its own legal entity
(notafish_) ok
(notafish_) France is a full-fledged organisation under French law
(notafish_) WMFrance that is
(notafish_) as is WMDeutschland
(notafish_) Dedalus: the way WMD and WMFr are organised
(notafish_) althoug not exactly the same
(Dedalus) The germans, aren't they independent?
(notafish_) is like this
(notafish_) WMD is independant to a certain extent
(notafish_) they have a "moral" binding to the WMFound
(notafish_) but ask akl he'll know better the exact difference
(notafish_) what I meant, is that they both have legal bylaws that make them full organisations
(Dedalus) we are considering something with legal bylaws as well in the Netherlands
(Dedalus) WMFrance has Wikimedia Foundation as a member with 25%, don't they?
Angela 33% in some cases
(Datrio) is WMNL official?
(Datrio) or it is still work-in-progress?
(Dedalus) we have a wiki http://nl.wikimedia.org to establish something with 51 registered users and some forty pages with ideas, discussions
(notafish_) Dedalus: and what comes out of it?
(Dedalus) so it is not official, not even semi-official - we have no rules no bylaws no board no nothing but a wiki
(Datrio) ah, okay...
(Dedalus) notafish_: there is no start of an agreement on purpose
(notafish_) Dedalus: ok....?
[snip]
(Dedalus) notafish_: in French "buts"
(notafish_) Dedalus: goals ?
(Dedalus) Should we only represent Wikimedia Foundation Inc as a legal interface to other companies
(Dedalus) i wasn't sure if purpose is the same as goals, but goals yes
(Dedalus) Or should we be a memberorganisation?
(akl) Dedalus: wikimedia germany is some kind of a memberorganization
(Dedalus) I see
(Dedalus) As is WMFrance, aren't they?
(notafish_) Dedalus: yes
(Austin) And there may one day be a WMUS, if we can get our act together.
(notafish_) Dedalus: the second
(notafish_) be a member organisation
(notafish_) legal representation is a pain
(notafish_) cos you don't have your hands free to do what you want in your own country
[snip]
(notafish_) Austin: come on, you can ;)
(Dedalus) I was away - somebody mailed me a log of an IRC-chat. Was busy reading
(notafish_) the idea is to try and interest people around a same organisation
(Dedalus) Austin: if we can get our act (bylaws?) together, there will be something in this very small country
(notafish_) if you're just a legal interface, no Dutch will think they can be part of the big picture
(Dedalus) That is advice notafish_ ! Thanks
(Dedalus) notafish_: what is 'a same organisation'?
(notafish_) well, ONE organisation
(notafish_) people don't feel naturally inclined to go to the WMFoundation
(notafish_) see, even the US is thinking of having their own chapter
(notafish_) :D
(notafish_) I like the idea
(notafish_) that all of us
(notafish_) in our little corner of the world
(notafish_) can work together towards the same goals
(notafish_) of course, any Googlhoo deals will still go through the Foundation, and it should be that way
(notafish_) but think what we can do in our own little countries
(notafish_) bring the governments to put all their pics in the Public Domain
(notafish_) teach students how to enrich Wikipedia in their own langauge
(notafish_) etc
(Dedalus) a kind of federation idea?
(Dedalus) the sum of all local chapters is the global organisation?
(notafish_) Dedalus: something like that
(notafish_) the Foundation still runs the game
(Dedalus) and same organisation is like more or less copy goals from other local chapters
(notafish_) has the trademarks, discuss the hosting offers etc.
(Dedalus) translate and adapt
(Dedalus) embrace and extend
(notafish_) but local chapter help in their own little way
(Submarine) oh yes
(notafish_) Dedalus: I am not sure what other goals there can be. Or at least how different the goals can be from one chapter to the other
(Dedalus) I understand completely notafish_ I thank for all advice, sincerely. Local time my place is close to midnight.
